Suspects arrested in forged ID and document networks

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s National Security Service said Sunday it dismantled four groups accused of forging official documents in Baghdad, Nineveh, and Muthanna, arresting multiple suspects and seizing forged IDs and certificates.

In Nineveh, officers arrested a man allegedly carrying five fake national ID cards he intended to sell for $6,000. In Baghdad, the agency said it broke up a full forgery network, detaining two people and confiscating forged national IDs, Interior Ministry IDs, residence cards, voter cards, and a vehicle registration.

In Muthanna, another man was arrested on suspicion of promoting fake school certificates through social media.

The agency said the operations were carried out with judicial approval and relied on surveillance, intelligence gathering, and “luring methods to catch the suspects in the act.”

Officials said efforts will continue to target forgery operations and urged citizens to report suspicious activity through the service’s hotline,131.
