Child rescued from locked car in Chamchamal after nearly suffocating in heat
CHAMCHAMAL — A young child was rescued by traffic police in Chamchamal on Thursday morning after being left alone inside a locked car and nearly losing consciousness from heat exposure, authorities said.
The incident occurred in the town’s market area, located in Sulaymaniyah governorate, when a family reportedly left the child inside their vehicle with the windows rolled up and doors locked. Police said the child was close to suffocating when officers intervened.
“After receiving an alert from the market, our team quickly responded and tried to locate the car’s owner,” said Aso Hama Khusraw, head of Chamchamal’s municipal traffic department. “When that failed, officers broke the window and rescued the child.”
According to police, the child had been left inside the vehicle during the morning while the family shopped nearby. Bystanders noticed signs of distress and notified officers.
“I want to thank all the officers who acted fast and saved the child’s life,” Khusraw said.
Authorities did not say whether legal measures would be taken against the child’s guardians.
