IHEC extends polling staff application deadline to August 1

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission announced Sunday that it has extended the deadline for poll worker applications to August 1, giving applicants additional time to apply ahead of the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections.

The application window, which had already been extended once, was originally set to close today. IHEC opened the process in early June as part of preparations for Iraq’s sixth parliamentary election, scheduled for Nov. 11, 2025.

To be eligible, applicants must be between 19 and 55 years old and reside in the governorate where they are applying. Current public sector employees will be given priority in the selection process.

On June 10, IHEC announced it would need approximately 250,000 polling staff to administer the elections. As of the latest update, more than 187,000 individuals have submitted applications.
