Barzani welcomes Iran-Israel ceasefire, urges regional dialogue
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, urging all parties to pursue inclusive dialogue as the path to lasting regional stability.
“I welcome President @realDonaldTrump’s announcement of Iran-Israel ceasefire,” Barzani said in a statement posted on X. “I firmly believe that the only viable path toward lasting stability, security, and prosperity in the Middle East lies in inclusive, constructive dialogue and mutual understanding among all parties.”
Barzani also expressed appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump and other world leaders for “their commitment to diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts at this critical time.”
The ceasefire officially took effect on Tuesday, June 24, following nearly two weeks of escalating hostilities that began on June 13, when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran responded with retaliatory missile strikes on Israeli cities, prompting fears of a broader regional conflict.
