Al-Zohour pool offers rare summer escape for Husseiniya residents
BAGHDAD — In Baghdad’s Husseiniya district, Al-Zohour swimming pool has emerged as a vital recreational outlet for youth and families, offering one of the few public leisure spaces in an area with limited facilities.
With summer temperatures rising and few entertainment options available, the pool has become increasingly popular among residents of all ages.
Muslim Al-Kaabi, the pool’s manager, told 964media that Al-Zohour features separate pools for children and adults, with depths ranging from 3 to 5 meters. The facility is staffed by trained lifeguards and swimming instructors, and water is disinfected daily using chlorine and blue agents to maintain hygiene.
Al-Kaabi said safety remains a priority as attendance grows. “Incidents of falling into the water do happen,” he said, “but lifeguards are present at all times and respond immediately and effectively.”
Admission costs 5,000 Iraqi dinars (about $3) for adults and 3,000 dinars (about $2) for children under 15. The pool also offers group discounts and provides free entry to children of martyrs and orphans.
Local resident Ahmed Ali called the pool a much-needed space for recreation. “Al-Zohour pool is the only outlet for youth in Husseiniya,” he said. “I visit daily with my children. The atmosphere is joyful and the cleanliness is excellent.”
