‘Iraq’s prosperity is Iran’s prosperity,’ says Iranian president in meeting with Iraqi FM
NEWSROOM — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met Monday with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, where the two discussed bilateral ties, regional stability, and cooperation in the economic and energy sectors, according to a statement from Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hussein reaffirmed Baghdad’s commitment to deepening relations with Tehran “in various sectors,” while Pezeshkian emphasized the two countries’ longstanding ties. “Iraq’s prosperity is Iran’s prosperity,” he said, pointing to historical, familial, and social bonds.
The officials also discussed ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations, with Hussein voicing support for the talks and expressing hope that they would lead to “tangible results” and a resolution that includes lifting sanctions on Iran.
On Monday Fuad Hussein also met with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, reaffirming Baghdad’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and urging continued dialogue between Iran and the United States.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian received Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Monday at the presidential complex in Tehran.
During the meeting, Hussein conveyed greetings from President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani to the Iranian president, reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors.
President Pezeshkian praised the longstanding historical ties between Iran and Iraq, highlighting the deep familial and social connections between the two peoples that span thousands of years. He expressed Iran’s interest in expanding cooperation, especially in the fields of economy and industry, noting promising opportunities for joint work between Iran and neighboring Iraqi governorates.
The two officials also discussed the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States. Hussein expressed Iraq’s support for the dialogue process and voiced hope that the talks would yield tangible results and lead to an agreement that could help lift sanctions imposed on Iran.
Hussein also reviewed the growing volume of trade between the two countries, pointing to progress in economic relations, as well as cultural and tourism exchanges. He emphasized the significance of the development project led by the Iraqi government, describing it as vital not only for Iraq but for the entire region.
The talks also covered gas exports and electricity imports from Iran, along with the challenges facing these sectors. Hussein stressed that development cannot be achieved without comprehensive regional stability.
President Pezeshkian affirmed Iran’s readiness to share its scientific advancements with Islamic countries, stating, “Iraq’s prosperity is Iran’s prosperity,” underscoring the close link between the two countries’ security and stability.
