Charitable group builds new homes for families in need in Tal Afar
NINEVEH — A local charitable association in Tal Afar is constructing a housing complex for impoverished families in the city’s Zahra neighborhood, with 18 homes currently under construction as part of a wider project that has already provided 38 homes to residents affected by war and displacement.
Ahmed Al-Mihrab, one of the founders of the Khuddam Al-Imam Al-Hussein Charitable Association, told 964media the organization began as a volunteer initiative in 2016, during the height of the displacement crisis caused by the Islamic State offensive. Initially focused on providing monthly rent assistance, food baskets, and medical support, the group has since grown to include about 400 donors and shifted its attention to permanent housing.
“So far, we have completed 38 homes and handed them over to eligible families. Work is now underway on a complex of 18 additional houses, bringing the total to 56,” Al-Mihrab said.
He urged individuals with financial means to “seriously support poor families and stand with them.”
Juma Abd Saleh, a worker involved in the project, said each new home will span 150 square meters and include two bedrooms, a reception room, a living room, and a kitchen. The homes are being built in the Zahra neighborhood on the western side of Tal Afar, an area that saw widespread damage during the conflict with the Islamic State group.
