Temperatures climb again with 48°C in Maysan and 50°C forecast for Saturday

BAGHDAD — Temperatures will rise across most of Iraq on Wednesday after several cooler days, reaching 48°C in Maysan, with parts of the center and south forecast to hit 50°C by Saturday, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Skies will be clear and sunny, with some cloud over parts of the north and south. Conditions will be hot to very hot during the day and relatively milder in the early morning and at night. Northwesterly winds will be light to moderate at 10 to 20 km/h, with occasional calm periods and variable conditions in parts of the north. Horizontal visibility will generally be good at 8 to 10 km.

Wednesday’s highs are forecast at 48°C in Maysan; 47°C in Kirkuk, Nineveh, Wasit, Basra and Dhi Qar; 46°C in Baghdad, Erbil, Diyala, Salah al-Din, Babil, Diwaniyah and Muthanna; 45°C in Sulaymaniyah, Karbala and Najaf; and 44°C in Duhok and Anbar.

Similar weather is expected in the coming days. Temperatures are forecast to rise slightly again on Thursday in central and southern Iraq and to hold near current levels on Friday, before parts of the center and south reach 50°C on Saturday, with milder conditions in the north.
