Two arrested after off-duty police officer assaulted in Anbar
RAMADI — Iraqi authorities arrested two people after an off-duty emergency police officer was assaulted during a personal dispute in Anbar governorate, the Interior Ministry said Sunday.
Video circulated on social media appears to show several men surrounding and striking a person inside a building as others stand nearby.
The ministry said the incident involved a member of the emergency police regiments and two other people and occurred outside the officer’s official working hours.
Both suspects were detained pending legal proceedings and will be referred to the judiciary, the ministry said.
The ministry said the law would be applied without exception and that authorities would not tolerate attacks against its personnel or violations of public order.
