President Rashid meets Azm Alliance leader, calls for ‘free elections’
BAGHDAD — President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met with Azm Alliance leader Muthanna Al-Samarrai on Sunday at Baghdad Palace to discuss Iraq’s political and economic situation and preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections, according to a statement from the Iraqi Presidency.
The president emphasized the need for “cooperation among all political forces to hold free elections in a democratic atmosphere that serves all citizens.”
Iraq’s next parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 11, 2025. The country’s electoral commission has extended the deadline for political coalitions to register until the end of official working hours on May 14.

President of the Republic Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received Sunday, May 11, at Baghdad Palace, the head of the Azm Alliance, Muthanna Al-Samarrai.
During the meeting, they discussed developments in the political and economic situation in the country, as well as the upcoming parliamentary elections and the means to ensure their success. The President emphasized the need for cooperation among all political forces to hold free elections in a democratic atmosphere that serves all citizens and fulfills their aspirations for development and prosperity.
For his part, Mr. Al-Samarrai expressed his thanks to the President for his dedication and attention to the importance of cooperation among political forces in support of security and stability in the country.
