Iraq welcomes India-Pakistan ceasefire as a step toward dialogue and diplomacy

BAGHDAD — The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Saturday welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, calling it a “positive initiative” and a move that shows both countries’ willingness to resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

“The Foreign Ministry expresses the Republic of Iraq’s welcoming of the ceasefire agreement between the Republic of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, considering it a positive initiative that reflects both countries’ commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as a means of resolving conflicts,” the ministry said in a statement.

Officials described the decision as a constructive step that could ease regional tensions and help build trust between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

The Foreign Ministry expresses the Republic of Iraq’s welcoming of the ceasefire agreement between the Republic of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, considering it a positive initiative that reflects both countries’ commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as a means of resolving conflicts.

The Ministry affirms that this decision represents a wise move toward reducing tensions in the region and paves the way for building mutual trust, fostering understanding, and bringing both sides closer together. The Ministry further appreciates the efforts that led to this agreement.

As well, the Ministry emphasizes that durable solutions can only be achieved through constructive negotiations and adherence to international agreements and laws.
