Iraq and Kurdistan Region mark May Day with public holiday
NEWSROOM — Both the federal and Kurdistan Regional Government have declared Thursday, May 1, an official public holiday in observance of International Workers’ Day.
The General Secretariat of the Iraq’s Council of Ministers announced that official working hours will be suspended in all state institutions in Iraqi governorates on May 1. The decision was made in accordance with Article 1 of Law No. 12 of 2024 regarding official holidays.
In the Kurdistan Region, the regional government’s calendar designates May 1 as an official holiday for all public institutions in recognition of International Workers’ Day.
International Workers’ Day, also known as Labor Day or May Day, is observed annually on May 1 in many countries across the globe. It honors the contributions of workers and commemorates the labor movement’s struggles for fair working conditions.
