President Rashid, Ammar Al-Hakim discuss political climate, upcoming elections
BAGHDAD — President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met Sunday with National Hikma Movement leader Ammar Al-Hakim in Baghdad to discuss Iraq’s political landscape and preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic Media Office, both sides emphasized the importance of supporting all necessary measures to ensure the success of the vote “in a way that meets the aspirations of all citizens.”
The Council of Ministers has officially set November 11, 2025, as the date for Iraq’s next parliamentary elections. Preparations are already underway, with the Independent High Electoral Commission beginning a monthlong update of the national voter register on March 24, a step considered crucial for organizing the polls.
