Maysan and Dhi Qar at 46°C before a cooler Monday in the north

BAGHDAD — Maysan and Dhi Qar are forecast at 46°C on Sunday, with every governorate except Duhok and Sulaymaniyah reaching at least 40°C, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Basra, Muthanna, Diwaniyah and Wasit are expected at 45°C, Baghdad 44°C, Diyala, Salah al-Din and Karbala 43°C, Kirkuk and Anbar 41°C, Erbil and Nineveh 40°C, and Duhok and Sulaymaniyah 37°C. Skies will be mostly clear with scattered cloud in the centre and north and more cloud in the south in the afternoon. Northwesterly winds of 10 to 20 km/h will strengthen in the east of the south, gusting to 40 km/h and raising light dust in desert areas, with visibility of 8 to 10 km falling to 5 to 7 km in dust.

Temperatures fall several degrees in the centre and north on Monday, to 33°C in Duhok, 36°C in Sulaymaniyah and Anbar, 38°C in Erbil and 41°C in Baghdad, while Maysan, Dhi Qar and Basra stay at 45°C.
