Iraq sets November 11 for parliamentary elections

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Cabinet has officially set November 11, 2025, as the date for the country’s next parliamentary elections, the prime minister’s office announced Tuesday.

“The Council of Ministers voted to set November 11, 2025, as the date for holding the legislative elections,” the office said in a statement.

Jumana al-Ghalai, spokesperson for the Independent High Electoral Commission, affirmed the commission’s readiness to conduct the vote. “The commission is prepared to hold the elections on the scheduled date,” she said in a voice message shared Wednesday.

On March 25, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Omar Ahmed Mohammed, chairman of the Board of Commissioners at the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), to discuss preparations. According to the prime minister’s office, the meeting focused on ensuring a smooth and organized electoral process.

The IHEC began updating the national voter register on March 24, a monthlong process considered a critical step in organizing the elections.

On Monday, the Coordination Framework — a coalition of Shiite political parties that supports the current government — said no party has the right to delay the vote.
