BAGHDAD, October 17 — Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani held a phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday, during which they discussed the ongoing developments in the Palestinian territories, emphasizing the importance of opening humanitarian corridors.

A statement from Al-Sudani’s office, received by Network 964, read:

“Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani received a phone call from U.S. President Joe Biden. During the call, they discussed the current field developments in the Palestinian territories.

The conversation emphasized the importance of mobilizing efforts and working together to support sustainable stability in the region, as well as enhancing the bilateral partnership between Iraq and the United States, in line with the Strategic Framework Agreement between the two countries.

Both sides stressed the necessity of containing the conflict and working to prevent the widening of the war, which targets civilians and threatens regional and international peace and stability.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani reiterated Iraq’s steadfast and principled stance on the events in Gaza, highlighting the importance of opening humanitarian corridors to provide what the people of the Gaza Strip need as they endure an unjust war and blockade.

He also expressed that the continuation of the aggression against Gaza arouses the anger of people in the region and around the world.”
