Authorities seize 200 kilograms of spoiled food in Hajiawa

SULAYMANIYAH—Authorities in Hajiawa district confiscated nearly 200 kilograms of spoiled food during an inspection at Hajiawa market on Wednesday evening.

Karzan Sleman, head of the joint committees at the Ranya district administration, told 964media that vendors had placed some of the food on the market. The seized items included vegetables, fruits, and dates. Sleman noted that several items were rotten and unfit for consumption.

The inspection is part of ongoing efforts to crack down on spoiled or expired food. In February, Sulaymaniyah authorities shut down 21 businesses for regulatory violations, referred three owners to court, and confiscated more than 36 tons of food.

On March 3, officials confiscated around five tons of smuggled frozen animal liver after seizing 60 tons of expired frozen meat a day earlier. Authorities said the meat, deemed unfit for consumption, was intended for sale during Ramadan.
