Sulaymaniyah shutters 21 businesses, destroys 36 tons of food over violations
SULAYMANIYAH — Authorities in Sulaymaniyah shut down 21 businesses last month for violating regulations, referred three owners to court, and confiscated more than 36 tons of food, according to official data.
A report from joint committees under the Sulaymaniyah district administration said inspectors conducted 6,353 visits in February, issued 166 warning notices, and ordered closures for businesses that failed to comply with guidelines.
Officials also imposed 56.1 million Iraqi dinars (about $37,700) in fines, which were added to public revenue, the administration said.
On March 3, authorities in Sulaymaniyah confiscated nearly five tons of smuggled frozen animal liver. The operation followed the seizure of 60 tons of expired frozen meat a day earlier. Officials said the meat, deemed unfit for consumption, was intended for sale during Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting.
