Iraq to don white against Kuwait in World Cup qualifier in Basra
BASRA — Iraq’s national soccer team will sport white jerseys as they host Kuwait, clad in blue, in Thursday’s World Cup qualifier at Basra International Stadium.
The match, set for a 9:15 p.m. kickoff local time, marks the teams’ second meeting in the current qualifying campaign. Their last clash on Sept. 10, 2024, ended in a goalless draw.
Currently, Iraq stands second in Group B with 11 points from six games — boasting three wins, two draws, and one loss. Kuwait occupies fifth place, with four points earned from four draws and two losses.
The encounter is part of the AFC World Cup qualifiers, a grueling qualification round where Asian nations vie for a place at the FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada next year.
