Duhok authorities recover woman’s body from Great Zab River, foul play suspected
DUHOK – Authorities in Akre district recovered the body of a woman from the Great Zab River on Thursday, with initial reports indicating signs of foul play, local police said.
In a statement, Akre police said the Kalak police station was alerted at approximately 11 a.m. to a body in the river near the village of Zangil.
“Our teams recovered the body of a woman who had been strangled with a metal wire tied around her neck and jaw before being thrown into the river,” police said.
Due to prolonged exposure to water, the body was decomposed and unidentifiable, police added.
Authorities transferred the remains to the forensic department in Erbil to determine the woman’s identity and cause of death. An investigation has been launched under Article 406 of the Penal Code, which addresses homicide cases.
