Cultural event in Nineveh celebrates Valentine’s Day with poetry and art

NINEVEH – On Friday, the Bakhdida Cultural Forum in Hamdaniya district (also known as Bakhdida) hosted a vibrant cultural event to mark Valentine’s Day, blending poetry, art, and literature. The celebration, supported by the Union of Writers and Authors in Nineveh, showcased romantic poetry readings in Arabic and Syriac, an art exhibition, and a book fair that attracted poets and writers from across the governorate.

Sa’d Mohammed, head of the union, told 964media, “This event is part of our ongoing literary activities in Nineveh, and the forum will continue to host regular cultural events.” He added, “The message that intellectuals and writers want to convey is that words can unite what race, sect, and religion may divide. Writers and intellectuals come together under the principle of humanity, which was clear on the faces of today’s attendees.”

Barzan Jerges, head of the Bakhdida Cultural Forum, noted that the event was the forum’s inaugural celebration since its establishment. “We collaborated with the Mar Boulos Foundation to show that young people can organize and host cultural festivals,” he told 964media. Jerges described the occasion as a symbolic message of love, stating, “Through this festival, we poets celebrated in our own way. We hope to continue these cultural activities to enrich Bakhdida’s literary and artistic scene.”
