Erbil security forces seize 1.5 kg of heroin hidden in non-stick pans

ERBIL — Erbil Security Forces announced the seizure of 1.5 kilograms of heroin smuggled into the Kurdistan Region through a commercial shipping company, concealed inside non-stick frying pans and pots.

In a statement released by Erbil’s Security Directorate, authorities said, “After gathering intelligence and conducting investigations in coordination with the General Directorate for Narcotics Control, we successfully seized 1.5 kilograms of heroin.”

Officials explained that the drugs were brought into the region by a trafficking network operating outside the Kurdistan Region, with the shipment entering Erbil via a commercial shipping company. “These narcotics were skillfully hidden inside three frying pans and pots, coated with a thin layer of lacquer to avoid detection,” the statement continued.

Legal action has been taken against the shipping company involved, which has now been shut down pending further investigation.

This operation follows recent seizures in the region. On Feb. 4, security forces in Erbil announced the confiscation of over 25 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine smuggled into the city through a transportation company based in Sulaymaniyah. Additionally, on Jan. 21, the Erbil Security Directorate reported the seizure of 11.4 kilograms of narcotics and the arrest of three individuals suspected of drug trafficking.
