Erbil security seizes over 25 kg of crystal meth ‘smuggled in steel pipes’
ERBIL — Security forces in Erbil announced the seizure of more than 25 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine that was smuggled into the city via a transportation company based in Sulaymaniyah.
Ardalan Fatih, a spokesperson for Erbil’s Asayish, told 964media, “Following investigations and the collection of intelligence, we seized a total of 25 kilograms and 5 grams of crystal methamphetamine.”
The drugs were hidden inside two hollow steel pipes and transported to Erbil under the guise of legitimate goods. “This narcotic substance was smuggled by a gang involved in drug trafficking, using a transportation company to conceal it. The crystal meth was carefully packed inside the pipes and disguised with a layer of industrial glue to avoid detection by trained sniffer dogs,” Fatih added.
He further stated that legal measures have been taken against the transportation company involved, with one suspect already detained in connection with the case. Investigations are ongoing under judicial oversight.
The Erbil Security Directorate also released a video showing a trained detection dog sniffing out the drugs concealed within the steel pipe, demonstrating how the narcotics were located despite the traffickers’ attempts to hide them.
On Jan. 21, the Erbil Security Directorate reported the seizure of 11.4 kilograms of narcotics and the arrest of three individuals suspected of drug trafficking.
