US embassy in Baghdad condemns drone attack on Khor Mor gas field

BAGHDAD — The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad condemned on Tuesday the recent drone attack targeting the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah’s Chamchamal district and urged the Iraqi government to investigate those responsible.

In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, the embassy wrote, “We condemn the attack on the Khor Mor gas field.” It also called on the Iraqi government to hold “the perpetrators accountable.”

The Kurdistan Region’s General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism in Sulaymaniyah reported that the attack occurred at 7:05 p.m., on February 2, stating that “a suicide drone targeted the Khor Mor gas field.” According to intelligence, “the drone was launched from the Bashir area [in Kirkuk] and was carried out by militia groups operating outside the law.” The directorate added, “There were no human or material losses, and the field, along with Dana Gas facilities, remained fully protected.”

Iraq’s Prime Minister Al-Sudani has ordered a “technical security committee” to investigate the drone attack.
