Babil police dismantle motorcycle theft ring, arrest eight suspects

BABIL — Babil police arrested eight individuals Wednesday in a coordinated effort to dismantle a motorcycle and three-wheeled vehicle theft and resale ring, the governorate’s police command announced.

The Anti-Crime Department in North Babil targeted the gang following a surge in reported thefts within its jurisdiction, according to the police statement.

Judicial authorities issued arrest warrants under Article 446 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which pertains to theft. All eight suspects were apprehended swiftly, the statement added.

“During interrogation, they confessed to committing multiple motorcycle thefts,” the police command said.

Further investigations led authorities to a location where the stolen vehicles were dismantled and altered before being resold. The suspects’ statements were documented, and a crime scene inspection corroborated their confessions, authorities confirmed.
