Four-year-child dies after touching live wire at family home in Al-Zubair
BASRA — A four-year-old girl died from electrocution on Wednesday evening in her home in the Al-Rasheediya area of Al-Zubair district, southwest of Basra.
A local security source told 964media that the child, identified as Noor Al-Huda, was playing in the house’s courtyard when she came into contact with an exposed electrical wire. The incident resulted in her immediate death.
“Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the source added.
Several electrocution cases have been noted across the country. In Dec. 17, 2014, a maintenance worker in the Al-Zubair electricity department died after suffering a severe electric shock while working on a power network in the Al-Dawajin area, southwest of Basra.
Later in December, a 22-year-old worker lost his life, after being electrocuted while working in a building in central Akre district, Duhok province.
In the same month, Erbil’s Western Emergency Hospital issued a warning about an increase in electricity-related fatalities, urging residents to exercise greater caution to prevent additional incidents. The warning followed the deaths of five individuals in electricity-related accidents within just seven days.
