Four killed in collision between taxi and tractor in Halabja

HALABJA — Four people were killed and two others injured in a traffic accident on Sunday evening when a taxi collided with a tractor on the Halabja-Sirwan Main Road near the Zamaqi checkpoint, local traffic authorities reported.

The accident involved a rented Nissan Altima taxi and a tractor. Preliminary reports suggest the taxi crashed into the tractor.

“Three citizens lost their lives at the scene, and three others were injured in this tragic accident,” the Halabja Traffic Directorate said in a statement. “The injured were transported to Halabja Emergency Hospital for treatment.”

The taxi’s three passengers — including a married couple residing in Finland who were visiting family in Halabja — died on impact. The taxi driver, who was critically injured, later succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

Authorities confirmed that the tractor driver, along with a passenger inside the taxi, sustained serious injuries.
