One dead, seven injured in multi-vehicle crash near Chamchamal

SULAYMANIYAH — A tragic traffic incident involving four vehicles occurred on the road between Takiya and Agjalar sub districts in Sulaymaniyah’s Chamchamal district on Thursday evening, leaving one person dead and seven others injured, local officials confirmed.

Araz Omer, head of Takiya Traffic Department, told 964media, “The accident happened this evening on the main road between Takiya and Agjalar near the village of Kani Spilka, involving four vehicles.”

Sharif Rahim, deputy director of Chamchamal Health Department, provided further details about the incident. “Seven injured individuals were transported to Chamchamal Emergency Hospital for treatment,” Rahim said.

According to Rahim, one of the vehicles’ occupants, a 67-year-old resident of Takiya, lost his life in the crash. “The body of the deceased has been transferred to Chamchamal Medical Forensic Unit for further procedures,” he added.

Of the injured, five sustained minor injuries, while two others were in more serious condition and required immediate medical attention. “Their health conditions are stable, and the necessary medical care is being provided.”

Yesterday, another devastating crash on the Kalar-Bawanoor road in the Garmian Independent Administration claimed the lives of four children under the age of 10. Among the victims were three sisters and their cousin.

Two of the children died instantly at the scene, while the other two succumbed to their injuries later that day. Additionally, three other individuals were injured in the crash and are receiving medical care.
