Sudani discusses bilateral relations with Russian Deputy Prime Minister
BAGHDAD, October 3 — Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa’ Al-Sudani discussed his upcoming visit to Russia and the importance of the Development Road project during a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lebedev in Baghdad on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the two officials discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance mutual cooperation in various fields. They also discussed the agenda for Prime Minister Al-Sudani’s upcoming visit to Moscow.
Al-Sudani emphasized the close and historic relations between Iraq and Russia and the government’s desire to strengthen them. He highlighted Iraq’s launch of the Development Road project along with the Grand Faw Port project, which is considered a sustainable economic project.
As the government aims to diversify the economy and reduce its dependence on oil, Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of these projects for the region and their integration with other economic corridors.
Mr. Lebedev conveyed greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Prime Minister Al-Sudani and extended congratulations on the occasion of Iraq’s National Day. He expressed Russia’s desire to strengthen cooperation with Iraq across various levels and fields.
