Two killed, driver and passenger injured in Nineveh crash
NINEVEH — Two women lost their lives, and another woman, along with the driver, sustained injuries in a crash. The incident occurred on an under-construction section of the Kisk-Rabi’a road near the village of Karsour in northwestern Nineveh.
A local traffic source told 964media that the vehicle overturned on the unfinished portion of the road, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.
The injured passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were transferred to the forensic department. The driver remains in critical condition.
Traffic incidents remain a persistent issue across Iraq. The country’s Ministry of Planning reported 3,019 fatalities from road incidents in 2023, excluding the Kurdistan Region, with 79% attributed to driver error.
Additionally, 12,314 injuries were recorded last year, a slight decline from the 12,677 reported in 2022. Other factors contributing to these accidents include mechanical failures, poor road conditions, and unsafe pedestrian behavior.
