Two sisters open Dulhan Boutique in Kut, bringing Pakistani and Indian fashion to locals

WASIT — After spending five years in Pakistan, sisters Saja and Jihan have returned to their hometown of Kut, Wasit province, to open “Dulhan,” a boutique offering Indian and Pakistani fashion on Al-Kafaat Street. The name “Dulhan,” which means “bride” in Hindi, reflects their vision of introducing Kut residents to Bollywood-inspired wedding and engagement styles, which are gaining popularity among young women in the region.

The boutique showcases a variety of traditional outfits, including saris, lehengas, maxis, shararas, and ghararas. For men, the store offers “sherwani” sets, comprising a three-piece outfit with a turban and matching shoes.

Saja Majid, co-owner of Dulhan, told 964media that the boutique stems from her passion for fashion rather than a need for employment. “I lived in Pakistan for five years and was captivated by their traditional designs,” she said. “When I returned to Iraq, I wanted to share the beauty of Indian and Pakistani clothing with women in my governorate.”

According to Saja, the boutique has attracted significant attention, particularly from women preparing for weddings, engagements, graduation parties, and other celebrations. All garments are imported from Pakistan, with some pieces sourced from India. The outfits are handmade, contributing to their premium pricing. To complete the look, the boutique also offers traditional accessories, making it a comprehensive destination for special occasions.
