NINEVEH — A teacher from the village of Kani in the Nimrud subdistrict of Nineveh governorate died Monday morning after being struck by lightning, according to a security source.

November weather in northern Iraq is characterized by cumulonimbus clouds, rain, lightning, and thunder, increasing the risk of lightning strikes in these areas.

This year, lightning has resulted in multiple casualties across the country. In the first week of May alone, lightning strikes claimed the lives of five people and injured three others.

In June, a 36-year-old Bedouin woman in the southern desert region of Tel Al-Lahm, Dhi Qar, died after being struck by lightning while leaving her tent. Later that month, a 14-year-old shepherd from the village of Qori Chai near Kifri in Garmiyan died under similar circumstances while tending his flock.
