Former lawmaker Kazem al-Sayadi arrested on extortion charge

BAGHDAD — Iraqi security forces arrested former lawmaker Kazem al-Sayadi on Monday on an extortion charge, acting on judicial orders, senior sources told the Iraqi News Agency.

No details were given about the allegation, when or where the arrest took place, or what proceedings will follow. Authorities have not said whether the case is connected to the anti-corruption campaign that has produced a series of arrests of current and former officials since June.
