Iraqi PM stresses neutrality, transparency in upcoming Kurdistan elections

BAGHDAD – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, in a meeting with the Independent High Electoral Commission on Saturday, underscored the importance of neutrality, transparency, and fairness to maintain public trust in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting focused on the commission’s preparations for the Oct. 20 election, with Al-Sudani reaffirming the government’s full support and commitment to providing all necessary resources. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani met on Saturday with the Chairman of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Omar Ahmed Mohammed, and its board members.

The meeting focused on the ongoing preparations and readiness of the commission to hold the sixth Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections, scheduled for October 20. Discussions also addressed finalizing all necessary procedures for this important democratic event.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani reiterated the government’s support for the efforts of the Electoral Commission, pledging to provide all required resources for the electoral process. He emphasized the need for the commission and its staff to exert maximum efforts as the countdown to the election continues.
