Arrested in Erbil with massive crystal meth and methadone haul

ERBIL, September 24 — The Erbil Directorate of Drug Control announced on Sunday the arrest of three suspects involved in drug trafficking and the seizure of a large shipment of crystal meth and methadone.

A statement from the Erbil Directorate of Drug Control, translated by Network 964, reads:

“On September 23, 2023, following an order from the Chief Investigating Judge regarding a drug trafficking network, our directorate, with the assistance of the Investigation and Monitoring Directorate of the General Security Directorate, successfully seized 51 kilograms of crystal meth and 1,079 methadone strips. Three suspects were apprehended in this operation, and charges have been filed against them, with their cases to be referred to the judiciary. The seized substances in this operation can be used more than 100,000 times, leading to numerous domestic issues and a significant increase in various crimes within the community. We want to inform all those involved in the drug trade that our agency will continue its efforts to apprehend and eliminate them, and their time is running out.”
