Six fatalities this year alone
Injuries and concerns for disabled employees plague Kurdistan mine agency
ERBIL, September 18 — Some 19 employees from the Kurdistan Mine Action Agency have been injured since the beginning of this year, and the head of the organization says he fears the rights of disabled workers are being denied.
Jabar Mustafa, head of the Mine Action Agency, told 964: “Since the beginning of the current year, six of our employees have died due to mines explosions, and 13 others have been physically disabled, meaning an average of 2 injuries per month.”
Mustafa claims the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) does not compensate disabled employees despite repeated demands from his organization. “We fear that the names of our martyrs will be removed from the list of martyrs in the name of reform,” he said.
