20,000 seat capacity
Nasiriyah International Stadium opens, marking a milestone for Dhi Qar sports
DHI QAR — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani inaugurated the Nasiriyah International Stadium on Tuesday, a significant addition to the sports infrastructure in Nasiriyah, the capital of Dhi Qar governorate. The stadium, with a seating capacity for 20,000 spectators, represents a major achievement within the Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund.
The Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund was established by Iraq’s Council of Ministers in early 2020. It is designated to finance and implement government-sponsored projects within the governorate. Earlier this year there were reports of mismanagement of the fund and projects being completed under it.
“During his visit, the Prime Minister toured the stadium’s facilities and expressed his appreciation for all the efforts that contributed to the completion of this significant project, which will serve the athletes and youth of Dhi Qar,” stated a release from Al-Sudani’s media office.
Marking a first in Iraq, the Nasiriyah International Stadium was completed without any interruptions or delays and was finished ahead of schedule. It features architectural and technical standards supported by 132 pillars, each weighing 60 tons.
The stadium is the first in Iraq to be equipped with electronic gates and includes four dressing rooms for players, an administrative wing, rooms for referees and officials, and a space dedicated to VAR technology. It also boasts a modern heating and cooling system, two large 48-square-meter screens, a comprehensive lighting system, electric elevators, two VIP training halls, and a special box for dignitaries.
