Musical legacy spanning five decades

Renowned Kurdish singer Nasser Razazi set to retire

SULAYMANIYAH — Nasser Razazi, a prominent Kurdish singer, is gearing up to release four new albums containing a total of 45 songs. He has declared that these albums will be his final contribution to the music industry, marking the end of an impressive 52-year career.

The 69-year-old artist told 964media, “I am just a few months away from turning 70, and I will retire. Especially with my voice, I do not want it to weaken to the point where I can no longer sing. I have been singing for 52 years, and it is time to stop.”

Despite the financial challenges, Razazi has continued to produce music out of what he deems necessity. “We must continue our work [as artists],” he stated. Razazi also plans to focus on writing and publishing books, which he views as a “national responsibility.”

Born in 1955 in Sanandaj, Iran, Razazi is renowned for his specialization in traditional Kurdish folk music, performing in various Kurdish dialects such as Sorani, Kurmanci, Hawrami, and Kelhuri. His career commenced in the 1970s, maintaining an active presence in the music scene ever since.
