Fidan meets British counterpart
Turkey in talks with Iraq, UAE, and Qatar on Turkish-Iraqi Development Road
BAGHDAD, September 14 — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced on Wednesday that intensive discussions are underway with Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Qatar regarding the Turkish-Iraqi Development Road project.
Fidan made the statement during a joint press conference held in Ankara, Turkey, with his British counterpart, James Cleverly, who was on an official visit to the Turkish capital.
Fidan emphasized that new trade routes have gained significance in light of recent geopolitical developments, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and competition between the United States and China. He noted that these developments have also brought other trade routes, previously discussed theoretically, back into consideration.
Fidan clarified that the trade route is not just about meeting trade demands but is also a reflection of geopolitical competition.
