Memorial service held after 17-year stay

Wasit nursing home honors its deceased longest-standing resident

WASIT – Staff and residents of the Al-Wafaa Nursing Home in Kut, Wasit, gathered to honor Naima Hassan, who passed away at age 82. Naima, the nursing home’s longest-standing resident, succumbed to complications from diabetes.

She had been at the nursing home for 17 years, receiving care from a dedicated caregiver during the last seven years as her health declined due to diabetes complications. The director of the Department of People with Disabilities and the Elderly secured approval from the governor to allocate a caregiver for her.

Born in 1942 in Kut, Naima had no children and her husband had passed away earlier. When her health deteriorated, she was transferred to the hospital where a physician recommended a leg amputation surgery. The nursing home lacked authority to approve the surgery, necessitating approval from her relatives. Her sister-in-law was summoned to sign off on the surgery. However, Naima’s health declined, and she passed away.

The memorial service held at the nursing home was attended by staff and residents, honoring Naima’s resilience during a challenging period in her life.
