Elderly residents in Erbil enjoy leisure time at “Fountains” park

ERBIL, August 27 — Elderly residents of Erbil spend enjoyable daily moments at the “Fountains” Park, where a retirees’ center offers meals and healthcare in exchange for a nominal monthly subscription.

Retirees in Erbil head to their dedicated center in the city center after 7 AM, forming groups or individually engaging in activities such as chatting, reading, exercising, and playing traditional games.

Said Mohsen Barzanji – Head of Erbil Retirees Center told Network 964:

“The center operates until 7 PM daily, accommodating 3000 members who receive complimentary meals and healthcare for an annual subscription fee of 15,000 Iraqi dinars.”

“Erbil Retirees Center was established in 2008 and renovated in 2018, incorporating several sections including a sports area, a clinic, a library, and a restaurant.”

Tawfiq Ismael – Retiree from the Iraqi Army said Network 964:

“I served in the Iraqi Army for 25 years and retired in 1993.”

“I visit the retirees center weekly, spending most of my time there reading newspapers.”

“Some retirees are drawn to games like dominoes, backgammon, and checkers, while others engage in reading books from the center’s library.”
