Border guards thwart gold-smuggling attempt from Iran

ERBIL, September 11 — Border guards from the First Region of the Kurdistan region thwarted an attempt to smuggle 24 kilograms of gold bullion and alloys coming from Iran on Monday, handing over the suspects to relevant authorities.

A statement from the First Region Border Guards Command, told 964: “In accordance with the directives of the authorities and as part of the activities of the First Region Border Guards Command, a detachment belonging to the Second Brigade of the Third Division managed to seize 24.150 kilograms of gold bullion and alloys. The owner intended to smuggle them illegally from Iranian territory into Iraqi territory and they were handed over to the relevant authorities.”
