Over 200,000 tourists visited Kurdistan region during Eid Al-Fitr days

ERBIL – Over 200,000 visitors flocked to the Kurdistan Region during the six-day Eid Al-Fitr holiday, Ibrahim Abdulmajid, the Director of Communications and Media at the Kurdistan Region’s Tourism Board, reported.

From April 8 to 13, 2024, which coincided with the week of Eid, the region experienced a significant influx of tourists, primarily from southern and central Iraq. “Out of these 200,000 visitors, 70,000 toured Erbil, 61,000 visited Sulaymaniyah, and 30,000 explored Dohuk. The rest traveled to various other areas within Kurdistan,” Abdulmajid explained.

Raparin, Zakho, and Soran are officially recognized as autonomous administrations within the Kurdistan region, a tier below the governorate.

The holiday period also attracted about 150,000 local visitors from within the region itself.

While the Board does not have exact figures for international visitors, Abdulmajid noted that many tourists came from abroad, particularly from Iran and Turkey.

From January 1 to April 13, 2024, tourist sites in the Kurdistan Region drew approximately 1.7 million visitors.
