French soldier killed in joint anti-terror operation in Salah Al-Din
SALAH AL-DIN, August 29 — A French soldier was killed on Monday evening in Salah Al-Din governorate during a joint security operation, as announced by the Élysée Palace on Tuesday.
The French Presidency said in a statement:
“With deep sadness and sorrow, President Emmanuel Macron learned of the death of Sergeant Nicolas Mazier yesterday in Iraq, while his unit was supporting an Iraqi unit in a counter-terrorism operation.”
The statement clarified that several others were also injured.
A security source revealed that an operation took place in the Al-Aith area, in eastern Salah Al-Din, involving Coalition Forces, in coordination with anti-terrorism forces and the Iraqi army, following an airstrike.
