Iraq’s transportation ministry announces upgrade path for airports

BAGHDAD — The Ministry of Transport has announced extensive development plans for the nation’s airports in response to the growing number of Arab and international tourists visiting Iraq. Maytham Al-Safi, the Ministry’s Media Director, shared these plans in a statement to the official newspaper, as reported by 964media.

Al-Safi reported that in the past two weeks, the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Al-Saadawi, has been directly overseeing efforts to eliminate the challenges faced by travelers at Baghdad International Airport. These efforts include the airport’s refurbishment and resolving issues such as flight delays and lost baggage. Al-Safi noted a significant improvement, highlighting the absence of new incidents, particularly since the implementation of a lost luggage tracking system via the “Ur” platform for travelers.

Improvements are not limited to operational fixes. The reception areas, including the VIP lounge, are undergoing upgrades, and there are plans to enhance the lighting at Abbas Ibn Firnas Square at the airport’s entrance. These initiatives are part of the Ministry’s commitment to elevate service quality for citizens and ensure a positive first impression for visitors and newcomers to Iraq. Al-Safi emphasized that the Ministry has devised detailed development plans for Baghdad Airport and other active airports across Iraq, aiming to cater to the heightened interest of Arab and international tourists attracted by the country’s rich cultural heritage and diverse attractions.
