Semel district launches campaign to greenify area

SEMEL — In an ambitious effort to enhance local aesthetic charm, the “Let’s Beautify Our City Together” campaign has set its sights on the Semel district’s Bekher Mountain, with plans to plant a varies range of 1,000 saplings.

This initiative, a collaboration among the Semel sub-district administration, the municipality, and the Dohuk and Semel directorates of culture and arts, has already made significant strides with the planting of 280 saplings in its initial phase.

Khalil Mahmoud, Semel’s qaymaqam, shared with 964media the campaign’s broader vision. “We are committed to planting a thousand saplings of oak and other trees throughout our region,” he stated.

This recent endeavor builds on the district’s previous success of planting 7,000 saplings, underscoring a sustained commitment to environmental enrichment.

Despite these efforts, Mahmoud acknowledged the need for continued progress. “The current greenery rate in our district is nearly 12%, which still falls short of global standards,” he explained, highlighting the campaign’s goal to significantly increase green coverage in the area.
