Dukan’s Henjira village to plant 650 pine trees
DUKAN — Residents of Henjira village have initiated a tree-planting campaign with a goal to plant 650 pine trees, aiming to increase the area’s green cover and overall beauty.
The ambitious move to enhance their local environment kicked off on Saturday, witnessing the participation of more than 25 villagers who managed to plant 200 trees on the first day. They are determined to continue their efforts in the upcoming days.
In a proactive step to safeguard the young saplings, the community has established a dedicated tree protection committee. Sebur Hassan, a committee member, told 964media, “We’ve successfully planted 200 pine trees over a one-kilometer stretch today. Pine trees were selected for their suitability to our local climate, drought resilience, and low water requirement.”
Hassan revealed that the campaign’s expenses, including the cost of the trees and the construction of protective fences, totaled about 1.5 million Iraqi dinars. This initiative has been community-funded, with villagers and some philanthropists covering the costs. The ongoing maintenance and watering of the trees will be managed by the Henjira village community.
Henjira Village is situated in the Bingird sub-district of the Dukan district and is home to over 30 families, all now contributing to a greener and more vibrant community landscape.
