Zakho municipality to plant privets across Court Street
ZAKHO — The Zakho municipality has begun the greening of Court Street – which spans 1,600 meters – with glossy privets.
This effort is a key part of a wider environmental campaign aimed at planting one million saplings throughout Zakho, beginning on the outskirts of the city and expanding into urban parks and public spaces.
The campaign’s initial phase involves planting 10,000 trees in the district’s hills and mountains.
The ongoing initiative seeks to boost Zakho’s green coverage, which stood at less than 3% before the start of the million-saplings project.
Falah Hassan, director of the Gardens and Greenery Department at the Zakho Municipality, told 964media, “Our goal is to fully greenify Zakho. Tree planting has become the most prominent activity in the city, and we are dedicated to elevating our greenery levels to meet and exceed expectations.”
