Kurdistan participates in Doha honey exhibition

ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government has participated in the 5th Honey Exhibition in Doha, Qatar, where it showcased its mountain-derived honey products. The event, which is taking place from Feb. 10th to 19th, offers a vital opportunity for presenting the distinct qualities of Kurdistan’s mountain honey to a global audience.

In a statement released by the Kurdistan Region’s Directorate of Media and Information to 964media, details were provided about the exhibition’s role in promoting Kurdish honey. Following the export of this honey to Qatar in November 2023, the Qatari government conducted thorough quality assessments. These tests compared the Kurdish honey against products from 23 countries and 100 different companies participating in the exhibition.

Dilsher Berdereshi, senior analyst in the Agricultural Team at the Prime Minister’s Office, emphasized the strategic oversight of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in the honey’s export process. The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, along with the Prime Minister’s Office, provided substantial support to ensure the product’s success on the international stage.

A significant accolade for Kurdish honey came during the 16th International Conference for Asian Beekeepers in Saudi Arabia in 2023. At this event, Kurdish honey outshone competitors from dozens of Asian and Arab countries, securing the title of the year’s best honey.

The success of Kurdish honey is not incidental. It reflects the Kurdistan Region’s advantageous mountainous terrain, which is ideal for producing honey. In recent years, the sector has experienced notable growth.
