Iraqi national security advisor discusses counter-terrorism cooperation with Russian ambassador

BAGHDAD – On Sunday, National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Aaraji met with the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, to discuss counter-terrorism cooperation and information exchange between the two countries.

The meeting, held at Al-Aaraji’s office, reviewed the latest political and security developments on the international and regional stages. Both parties explored ways to develop Iraq-Russia relations and continue collaboration in the fight against terrorism and the exchange of intelligence.

Al-Aaraji emphasized Iraq’s position on the Russian-Ukrainian war, highlighting the importance of dialogue and diplomatic channels to resolve the crisis, considering it a war of attrition. He pointed out that Iraq-Russia relations are historic and strategic, underscoring the need to leverage these ties to bolster security and stability in the region and the world.

Furthermore, Al-Aaraji condemned the “humanitarian crimes” in Gaza, specifically the killing of children and women, calling for an immediate cessation of violence.

Ambassador Kutrashev reaffirmed the strong relations between Russia and Iraq, expressing a commitment to further develop these ties across all sectors.
